Korgialenio Historical and Folklore Museum in Argostoli

On Sunday, 18th of May 2025, is the International Museum Day. A good opportunity to visit the small but fine Korgialenio Historical and Foklore Museum in Argostoli (behind the theatre). The exhibition shows furniture, clothing, handicrafts and everyday objects. Let yourself travel back to the life on Kefalonia as it was long time ago. The oldest exhibit is an artistically crafted wooden cross from 1581. Various fans are on display. Imagine how women used them to send messages. A fan on the left cheek means: Leave me alone! But on the right cheek it says: Yes! Particularly interesting are the old photos from the time of the severe earthquake in 1953. On the International Museum Day, the entrance is free. The museum opens from 9am to 2pm. These are also the normal opening hours, but not on Saturday and Sunday.
